“Teaching the Animal” A Workshop for Humanities Professors, 11-13 April 2013

Held at the University of the South, this workshop includes short lectures and discussions led by internationally-recognized scholars, small group discussions, walks in the woods and trips to farms, reflection, and planning. The program will guide humanities faculty in incorporating units on animal-human relationships into courses and developing whole courses in the vibrant and growing interdisciplinary field of human-animal studies. "Teaching the Animal" is funded by an ACS grant and is available to faculty of the Associated Colleges of the South.
ES welcomes new post-baccalaureate fellow Daniel Church

Daniel Church, C'11, began a post-baccalaureate fellowship with Director of Sustainability Integration Marvin Pate, and the Office of Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability in July 2012. Church received a B.A. in Environmental Studies: Policy. The year-long fellowship will see Church helping to coordinate various sustainability-related student groups while also helping to draft sections of the Sustainability Master Plan, such as Transportation, Groundskeeping, Stormwater Management, and Campus Planning. Church will also help coordinate recycling efforts, and initiate new sustainability programs being rolled out across campus during the 2012-2013 academic year.
Sewanee receives sustainability grant for energy management, interns

A new grant from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund will provide resources for some of the University of the South’s sustainability efforts, from student-faculty research to community outreach to managing university energy use.
